Specialist Clock Restoration, Repair & Servicing
Restoration is a very different art to servicing as it demands a far more intimate knowledge of the techniques used in traditional horology, and a greater experience in the aesthetic and mechanical designs used throughout the history of clock making.
Our restorers at The Clock Work Shop are highly trained specialists in antiquarian horology. Understanding the original style and appearance of a clock in order to accurately bring it back to its former glory.
The restoration, repair and servicing of antique clocks require specialist skills that have been developed over many generations. Traditionally these skills are passed on from Master to Apprentice and we now have our own team of artisans specialising in various different areas of horology. Between us we are able to offer a fully comprehensive clock restoration service.
These two pictures show some of our capabilities, to the left is how the clock came into the workshop. The top had been cut off and the bottom sunk into a hole in the ground in order to fit the clock into the customers fathers home. Although many clockmakers would consider this beyond restoration, we certainly don’t, this is an extreemley fine clock that just needed a bit of tlc. We re-built the case and pagoda top restored the painting of the rocking ship, silvered the dial, re-blued the hands and overhauled the movement, making a few parts that were missing.
To the right you can see the picture of how the clock was returned to our customer, needless to say they were very happy with our work.
