As expected in a clock of this standard, the movement is of the highest quality. Thick movement plates held together with five pillars, six-spoke wheels throughout, maintaining power, and jewelled dead-beat pallets. Mercurial pendulum to compensate for temperature variation, and silvered brass beat plate.
12” silvered dial with conventional regulator layout featuring a minute hand, subsidiary seconds and hour dials. Fine blued steel hands throughout. Signed John Poole of London who is listed as working in Fenchurch Street between 1845-81, and also listed as a ‘Maker to the Admiralty’. The dial enclosed behind glass held in a thick, locking, cast bezel with silvered sight ring.
The arched top case is of good proportion and size, and features the finest mahogany veneers with a full-length glazed trunk door.
