Adam & Eve Automata Longcase Clock by James Slade of Trowbridge

A very fine Adam & Eve automata longcase clock of 8-day duration. The movement is weight driven with anchor escapement, striking the hours on a bell.

The break-arched original painted dial displays the four seasons within the corners of the dial, an Arabic chapter ring with subsidiary seconds, date aperture, makers name and place of work under, with finely cut brass engraved hands. To the arch of the dial there is Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden where Eve is offering Adam the forbidden fruit, one of each of their arms move as the clock ticks to looks as if Adam is taking the fruit from Eve. Also, in the background there are an array of both wild and farm animals.

This clock is cased within a beautiful mahogany veneered case of great proportions with some stunning flame mahogany veneers, Greek key banding, boxwood inlay, the door of the hood is flanked by fluted columns with brass capitals. The trunk is harmonised also flanked with fluted mouldings, capitals to the bottom and acanthus leaf capitals to the top.
