Drocourt family of Clockmakers

A family famous for making superb carriage clocks of very top quality, predominantly decorative and always attractive in appearance. Winners of many awards over many years including; Besancon exhibition 1860, Bronze medal for carriage clocks. London exhibition 1862, honourable mention. Paris 1867, Bronze medal. Paris 1878, Silver medal. Paris 1889, Gold medal.

Alfred Drocourt, the son, succeeded Pierre, his father and is understood to have had workshops in Paris and in Saint-Nicholas-d’Aliermont. Pierre Drocourt was exhibiting in the 1860’s and Alfred was exhibiting in 1880 and 1889.

Their famous trademark consisted of the letters “D” and “C” with a carriage clock between them. Drocourt clocks sometimes had the name and address on the dial, and sometimes “DROCOURT PARIS” in an oval on the backplate. Known serial numbers range from 1248 to 35,233. The serial numbers of Drocourt’s carriage clocks were usually repeated on the winding keys.
