Description
This wonderful piece of engineering is practically the definition of a regulator. The high quality of the substantial plates, all wheelwork having six crossings, jewelled pallets and every single wheel having end stops to each arbor, keeping the wheels aligned perfectly for the greater accuracy of timekeeping. Such a stunning movement cased within a solid mahogany case, there was clearly no expense spared in the design and construction of this delightful clock.
Movement: The decidedly substantial regulator movement features tapered plates with six riveted and pinned pillars and is of 8-day duration, weight driven with ruby jewelled dead beat escapement pallets, beat regulation attached to the crutch and Harrison’s maintaining power. The wheelwork in the timepiece consist of 6 spokes, there are also end stops on both the front and back plates to all pivots on the clock so that now shoulder of any arbor touches the plate, this is aimed towards achieving a much higher accuracy of timekeeping.
The awesome pendulum has a standard wooden rod with an oversized, extremely heavy 8” diameter brass lenticular bob, with a silvered and engraved rating nut below. This sturdy pendulum has to be carried by a bar that spans both plates to hold such weight.
Case: This understated solid mahogany case of small proportions is perfect to hold the highly engineered movement of such high quality. The hood having canted front corners with a shallow arch to the case. The trunk features a long door with beautiful choice veneers leading down to the base with applied front panel. The proportions of this case are very attractive.
Dial: The 10” shallow arched silvered engraved earlier regulator dial, with original finely blued steel hands has the rolling hours shown with Roman numerals set within an aperture below the centre, leaving just the seconds subsidiary dial above with Arabic ten second markers, both enclosed within the minutes featuring Arabic five minute markers. The dial is signed at the top “Arch Johnston London”.
