Description
Regency rosewood bracket clock signed by Widenham & Adams
This one of a kind, high quality Regency style English bracket clock is encased in rosewood with finely cast ormolu mounts and a 4.5” diameter silvered engine-turned dial.
The balloon style case was custom made and the unusual shape of the plates indicate the movement was designed specifically for this case. The clearances between the case and the movement are very tight.
The substantial 5-pillar double fusee movement, with anchor escapement, strikes a gong on the hour with a hidden repeat located on the side. It is signed ‘Widenham & Adams, 13 Lombard Street, London’ on the back plate which is visible through a wood framed glazed door. The pendulum is visible through the fretted brass opening in the front and the glazed door in the back. The case has recently been ‘French polished’ to bring out all the rich colours in the rosewood.
Richard Widenham received an award at the chronometer trials at the Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1825, and began trading as Widenham & Adams on Lombard Street in 1835.
