The five-pillar movement of 8-day duration is weight-driven, with anchor escapement and a seconds brass pendulum. The clock strikes the hours to a bell via a rack and snail striking system, with the option of being silenced via the dial.
A fine-looking typical London mahogany pagoda top longcase with applied panel to the base and a long slim trunk and door.
The 12″ brass break arch dial features Roman and Arabic numerals with a seconds subsidiary dial, calendar aperture, cartouche engraved ‘Anthony Marsh opposite The Bank Of England’, with strike/silent option in the break arch and finished with the original finely cut blued steel hands.
Anthony Marsh; was a clockmaker of great repute, having served his apprenticeship through the Worshipful company of clockmakers between 07.06.1714 to 05.10.1724. He then went on to master eight apprentices between 1732 and 1771.
