Restoration is a very different art to servicing or repairing clocks as it demands a far more intimate knowledge of the techniques used in traditional horology, and a greater experience in the aesthetic and mechanical designs used throughout the history of clock making.
Our restorers at The Antique Clock Company are highly trained specialists in antiquarian horology. Understanding the original style and appearance of a clock in order to accurately bring it back to its former glory.
The restoration, repair and servicing of antique clocks require specialist skills that have been developed over many generations. Traditionally these skills are passed on from Master to Apprentice and we now have our own team of artisans specialising in various different areas of horology. Between us we are able to offer a fully comprehensive clock restoration service.

When restoring a clock, it is dismantled and each individual part is carefully hand cleaned. Parts are handmade as necessary, and any repairs are carried out. All our work is done sympathetically and every attempt is made to preserve the original workings of the clock. The clock is then rebuilt, adjusted and fully tested before being returned to the customer. All replacement parts are made in our own workshops.

We will estimate the cost of any restoration or repair of a clock for free, and can advise on all aspects of clock care.
For complete assurance to our customers all restoration work is guaranteed for 3 years.
As well as clock repair & restoration, we undertake routine servicing of clock mechanisms to make sure that they continue to function well and preserve the life of the clock for years to come.

These two pictures show some of our capabilities, to the left is how the clock came into the workshop. Our customer had inherited this bracket clock from their late father who lived in Canada, they found a clockmaker over there who seemed to know what they were talking about to safely pack the clock and send it over to the UK. Unfortunately the clockmaker didn’t really know what he was doing and sent the clock all in one piece. During freight, the weight of the clock inside the case was thrown about (possibly in turbulance) and smashed itself free damaging not only the case, but the clock movement too.
To the right you can see the picture of how the clock was returned to our customer, needless to say they were very happy with our work.

Another example of our capabilities, to the left is how the clock came into the workshop. The top had been cut off and the bottom sunk into a hole in the ground in order to fit the clock into the customers fathers home. Although many clockmakers would consider this beyond restoration, we certainly don’t, this is an extremely fine clock that just needed a bit of tlc. We re-built the case and pagoda top restored the painting of the rocking ship, silvered the dial, re-blued the hands and overhauled the movement, making a few parts that were missing.
The picture to the right shows how the clock was returned to another very satisfied Antique Clock Company customer.
