Description
This beautiful little clock has the most exquisite fine hands upon a perfect white enamel roman numeral dial. The 8-day timepiece movement with French frosted gilt plates and Swiss lever platform escapement.
The rectangular chased silver case decorated with repousse rococo scrollwork, with pivoted looped scroll hinged handle on compressed bun feet. The hallmarks dating to London 1898. The case is also stamped “Drew, 156 Leadenhall Street E.C.” to the underside of the case.
The clock comes contained within its original travel case with an applied silver plaque to the top, engraved: Presented to, Mr & Mrs H.A. Wainwright, by the staff of, Boodle & Dunthorne Ltd. on the occasion of their Silver Wedding.
The firm of retail jewellers Drew and Sons was based at Piccadilly Circus from 1887 until 1914 when they moved to premises in Regent Street. They also had premises at Leadenhall Street in London from 1888-1914 and also at Kings Road in Brighton from 1894.
