Description

A beautiful quality English 8-day striking fusee five glass bracket clock in an excellent walnut case. The robust twin chain fusee movement with anchor escapement strikes the hours on a gong.

4 ¼” silvered dial with engraved floral swags surrounding the division ring, with roman numerals, finished with the original blued steel hands.

The charming case is made from a Virginia red walnut with bevelled glass to the top, sides and rear.

Serviced and guaranteed for 3 years.

2. Fully Serviced & Guaranteed

Once you have selected the clock you wish to purchase, you can secure it by placing a 20% deposit. The clock will then be taken to our workshop, where a specialist clockmaker will conduct a comprehensive restoration. The clock will then undergo rigorous testing for a minimum of 4 weeks. The work carried out on your clock will be guaranteed for 3 years, providing you with further peace of mind.

3. Delivery

After the clock has undergone a full restoration and the testing period has been successfully completed, we will contact you to arrange a suitable date for delivery. At this point the final balance will be due. The delivery process will be coordinated with you to ensure a convenient and secure transportation of the clock to your location.

A high-quality French gilt brass gorge-cased carriage clock with bevelled glasses and a rippled handle over a large, bevelled glass inspection panel, moulded cornice, and uprights to a matching base.

An excellent clean white enamel dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary alarm dial below and signed J.W. Benson of Old Bond Street London and finished with original finely blued steel “Breguet” style hands.

The 8-day strike repeat movement with an alarm option is finished with the original large silvered Swiss lever platform escapement. The clock strikes the hours to a blued steel gong with a single strike on the half hour.

Drocourt family of Clockmakers

A family famous for making superb carriage clocks of very top quality, predominantly decorative and always attractive in appearance. Winners of many awards over many years including; Besancon exhibition 1860, Bronze medal for carriage clocks. London exhibition 1862, honourable mention. Paris 1867, Bronze medal. Paris 1878, Silver medal. Paris 1889, Gold medal.

Alfred Drocourt, the son, succeeded Pierre, his father and is understood to have had workshops in Paris and in Saint-Nicholas-d’Aliermont. Pierre Drocourt was exhibiting in the 1860’s and Alfred was exhibiting in 1880 and 1889.

Their famous trademark consisted of the letters “D” and “C” with a carriage clock between them. Drocourt clocks sometimes had the name and address on the dial, and sometimes “DROCOURT PARIS” in an oval on the backplate. Known serial numbers range from 1248 to 35,233. The serial numbers of Drocourt’s carriage clocks were usually repeated on the winding keys.
